HOW TO PLAN A FUNDRAISING DRIVE

PHILOSOPHY OF BBYO FUNDRAISING:

The bbyo fundraising policy has been formulated, over the years in the interest of promoting good relations and general welfare of BBYO and the Jewish Community. People tire of constant requests for funds. To frequent solicitation of a prospect usually results in bad feeling towards the organization. Good taste and tact should determine the type of fundraising best for your community.

--a haphazardly planned fund raising drive will generally result in little or no benefit for your chapter. Fundraising should be treated like any other program you hold.

--All members should participate in the discussion on what type of project you will hold. It should not be just an executive decision, but a chapter decision.

--Plans for the drive should be made will in advance of the proposed date for the drive. Poor planning leads to poorer results.

--A committee should be set up to oversee the drive. DON'T just leave it up to the Mazkir/Mazkirah or Gizbor/Gizborit

--Every chapter member should understand clearly his responsibility and should carry out fully what is expected of him.

--The fundraising committee should have regularly scheduled meetings with your advisor. Don't use general meeting time to work out the particulars of the project.

--An evaluation report including recommendations of committe members should be made at the next general meeting following the event.

--All outstanding bills, allocation of profits, should be made before the committe disbands

--All financial records of the drive should be turned over to your chapter treasurer and secretary so they can be recorded.

--Every member should be encouraged to sit on at least one fundraising committee during the year. This creates a bond between the member and his chapter's activities.

THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR:

--Don't plan a project that is not supported by a majority of the chapter

--Don't rush into a fundraising project

--Don't have a project that offers the same items as another group at the same time they are having their drives.

--Don't gamble on a project in which you might lose money.

--Don't use funds from other fundraising projects to fund a new project.

--Don't order items where you have to pay the full cost upon delivery. And don't over order, you can always get more.

VALUES OF FUNDRAISING:

--Fundraising is not merely a money-making activity. If well planned and carefully carried out, a chapter can recieve more than money from the venture.

--You can afford your members an opportunity for an educational experience of benefit in the adult life by completely discussing the project and when completed, by a complete evaluation of the project.

--If the project is carefully planned your members will recieve satisfaction and pride in their achievement.

--A fundraising project that involves the entire chapter will result in a stronger more cooperative and united group.

--By promoting and publicizing your project you can publicize your chapter and BBYO's objectives and principles.

--Above all, you and the members of your chapter can gain valuable experiences in learning to work and cooperate together.
